Artist: Jean McGuire,
Art by Jean McGuire
Jean McGuire was always considered the “art kid” growing up. When she was unable to make her pictures look exactly as they were pictured in her head she gave up painting. If she couldn’t be another Rembrandt, she wasn’t interested in even trying.
In the fall of 2014 Jean was e-mailing with a friend from her childhood on the topic of once again picking up the paints. In that moment the universe sent her a sign and she was contacted by Michael Molick of Molick Gallery inviting her to start oil painting classes. The initial reaction was “can I afford this?” but again the universe sent her a clear picture and after the first class she knew that this passion for art was well worth the investment.
Jean McGuire is a Kansas City native and has put her unique spin on the oil painting medium. She paints with her fingers and creates her colors utilizing only the three primary colors (red, blue, and yellow,) and white. She has been featured as a guest artist during First Friday events at the Molick Gallery, and her work has been displayed at businesses and galleries around Kansas City, including Paper Birch Landing Gallery, Hilliard Gallery, Unity Temple on the Plaza, Skyline Realty, the offices of Dr. Ellen Sheridan, Silver Screen Salon, and is currently showing at Fusion Art International online gallery and the 2018 Art at the Center Juried Exhibition in Overland Park.
When she is not painting in her studio at InterUrban ArtHouse, a creative art space, she loves to give back to the community and works at numerous YMCA’s in Kansas City as a yoga instructor. She also writes a weekly blog on her website: JasminePetalsThoughts.com.
