Call for Artists, Programs, and Performers
This exhibition will take place on and between June 15th and July 20th
Deadline for interested contributors: Thursday, March 1st
Exhibition Opening Reception: Visual and Performing/Spoken Art
Friday, June 15th, 5-8pm
Artist Discussion Panel with ArtsKC
Friday, July 20th, 5-8pm
The exhibition coincides with Pride Month, and will revolve around the theme of storytelling; giving contributing artists a platform to share their experiences with each other and the public through visual art, spoken word, and literary readings.
Intended audiences are members of the LGBTQ community, those who know/love/support them, and the general public who may not have much contact with them.
***The opening and closing receptions will be family friendly, so plan work accordingly. Nudity is kosher but anything more explicit will need to be labeled as such and may be showcased in a designated 18+ area of the gallery, stylized as a “backroom”.
Participants: This show has room for 10 visual artists of diverse backgrounds and experiences within (and around) the LGBTQ community. Musicians, spoken word artists and writers will be needed for opening and closing reception performances, and potentially other events throughout the run of the exhibition.
RFP’s must be submitted by 3/1/18
Notification of acceptance and artist contract will be sent in mid-March.
Signed artist contracts due 3/23/18
Work must be delivered to InterUrban ArtHouse 6/8 – 6/9/18
Works chosen to show must be delivered to the InterUrban ArtHouse by 6/8/18, wired and ready to hang, either from our hook and cable system, or with command strips.
Visual: Artists may submit images of up to 4 pieces (exceptions may be made for smaller pieces and some or all may be chosen to display). If pieces are still in the conceptual phase, please provide a description, images of past work, and an example/sketch.
Please also include title, medium, dimensions, and price, if for sale. The InterUrban ArtHouse takes a 25% commission of all art sales.
Written & Spoken Work to be performed: Writers may submit up to 3 poems, or 2 essays/ works of short fiction. Please upload a video/ audio file of up to 4 pieces you’d like to perform.
Zines & Prints: This is a potential component, and its inclusion will be determined in March. However, if you are interested, please include examples of your work with pricing included. Decide whether you may need a half or full table.
Musicians: Sets should be at least 45 minutes. Music volume should be pleasantly immersive for an exhibition setting. Performances will potentially be outside in a covered area. Please send examples of your music, list any potential equipment you are providing for your performance or may be in need of as well as a performance fee.
Programming Proposals: If you have an idea for a program (lecture, panel, film screening, etc.) to take place in between the show opening and closing dates, please don’t hesitate to share.
