About Manny Mendez: A Florida native, Manny Mendez received his school of hard knocks diploma in correctional facilities since the days of his youth. After gaining his physical freedom he began a long journey to free his mind from the prison of addiction. Through it all, his comfort came in the form of art. His work has been featured in exhibits and recovery centers across the United States and he is featured in several films produced by Foreel, Manny is a true inspiration.
The Art of Recovery Exhibit started September 2014. It was the brainchild of two men in recovery, one with a year in recovery and the other with two years. One, a photographer who had not used his tools in months; the other a seasoned artist. They sought a way to combine their talents and gifts as a means of using art to supplement their ongoing recovery process. Held at the Within Bookstore and Cafe located in Lake Worth Florida, this project allowed people to explore aspects of their life through artistic mediums they may not have been able to convey in a conversational format.
Today the Art of Recovery encompasses an art show and a recovery-centered film festival. It continues to resonate with a large section of our population and to inspire hope in the lives of many struggling with a substance use disorder.
