This class will introduce a variety of techniques, regardless of your chosen subject matter. The instructor (Ione Angilan) will demonstrate these techniques and monitor attendees as they master the skill. Classes will be designed with 2 hours of class followed by 1 hour of "open studio" to work on projects with the added benefit of continued assistance from the instructor. You are welcome to bring a lunch.
Week 1: Basic brushwork/ Attendees will learn the 7 basic watercolor techniques including preparation, wet on dry, dry on dry, dry on wet, flat wash, graduated wash, veriegated wash and wet on wet. Following instruction and practice, attendees are encouraged to stay for a 1 hour open studio to further explore the use of these techniques.
Week 2: Advanced Techniques/ Attendees will learn about Glazing, Masking Fluids, Blotting, Sponging, Scratching and the how to use salt, alcohol and plastic wrap in watercolors to achieve special effects. Following instruction and practice, attendees are encouraged to stay for a 1 hour open studio to further explore the use of these techniques.
Week 3: Advanced Techniques/ In addition to learning feathering and water blossoms, attendees will learn about lifting using sponges, paintbrushes and paper towels and a continuation of the use of materials such as crayon resist, bubble wrap, salts (rice and epsom) and sandpaper. Following instruction and practice, attendees are encouraged to stay for a 1 hour open studio to further explore the use of these techniques.
Week 4: Attendees will have a 3 hour work/studio session to paint together using the techniques you enjoyed the most! During this 3 hour session, the instructor will be available to offer assistance as needed.
