“I create mixed media works inspired by the transformation of the contemporary landscape to create speculative environments from a wide variety of materials. I am interested in how the elements and nature inevitably undo human efforts to build, contain and control through growth, decay and deterioration. The disparity created by the combination of soft organic materials and industrial materials; the deteriorated and decomposed nature of the substrates achieved through staining, burning, and unraveling; and the superimposition of recognizable patterns used for building, sewing, and other decorative purposes hand stitched on to my materials, embody this cycle of anthropological construction and natural destruction.”
