Art Heals: Military Veterans Drop-In Group

Narrative Art Therapy

military group.png

This drop in group is designed as a creative outlet for people who have served and are serving in the US Armed Forces. These art sessions will offer participants a gentle opportunity to explore the “stuff” that is hard to talk about related to military service and post deployment life. These groups are free of charge, and no art background is necessary for participation.

With a partnership between InterUrban ArtHouse and Operation Art, these sessions will be co led by art therapist, Sherri Jacobs, MS, LMFT, MA, ATR, and artists, Ada Koch and Sydney Pener.

Externalizing the unspoken “stuff” in our heads though images, words, and even cartoons can be a powerful process to get ahold of the things/memories/experiences that often consume us. Join us for an evening of anthropomorphizing this “stuff” in an enjoyable and non-threatening way. No art experience necessary for participation!

Military veterans are often confronted with too few options or too many options for themselves in their post military world. Narrowing the change process down to setting tiny goals makes the overall experience less intimidating and more realistic. This session will offer participants an opportunity to set some tiny goals, and while creating miniature paintings (which offer a non-threatening opportunity for self expression). No art experience necessary for participation!
